‘Surround’ pillows are trending on the pillow market, a great solution for softness and support? We think so.

‘Surround’ pillows are trending on the pillow market, offering a seemingly perfect solution for the down lover who needs a bit more support in the middle.

We tried the White Company’s European Down Surround pillow and found it… pretty darned comfortable.

Is this the best of all possible worlds? The White Company’s surround pillow is down – bouncy and cloud-like in its softness but with a firmer core which stops that dent my head tends to make in the middle of some of my less firm pillows. Ok, so it’s not 100% down, you’d be paying roughly double for that, and it’s duck as well as goose if you’re fussy about your poultry but the 60/40 balance of down to feather does still give a beautifully gentle feel to the pillow. The two best features of this pillow though are firstly the fact that the outer is really decent quality, dense cotton (‘233-thread-count pure cotton percale’) – I didn’t see a trace of duck attempting escape. Secondly, and the main selling point of course is the inner core. I wouldn’t know it was there except for the fact that the pillow is a little heavier than an all-down pillow. The result was a really decent night’s sleep on a soft pillow which supported my head and neck surprisingly well.

Not suffering from allergies myself, I had no problems with this pillow but since it does contain some feathers, I couldn’t guarantee it for all.

This is a really nice pillow and at a mid-range price for down. Love it!
