Well done M&S! £18 for a feather and down pillow is astounding value.  Go for the ‘firm’ option – it’s still very soft.

We had a feeling this was going to be a good pillow from new owners’ glowing reports over the past few weeks.  And we weren’t wrong.  This a brilliant value, full and soft pillow in the feather and down category that delivers on all criteria.

It’s an 85% duck feather pillow with 15% down – this enables it to be at the cheaper end of the market as down itself is expensive.  You can feel the down – it is softer and more airy than a pure feather pillow, but it does still have the slight crackle of a feather filling.

The cover is 100% cotton, with double-stitched and beaded seams so great quality for £18.  But the cotton is a bit thin – and this is the one caveat with this pillow – for a 5* feeling you’ll need a pillow protector to stop the odd pesky feather trying to escape.

The ‘medium’ gets great reviews on the M&S website but for me, the ‘firm’ option is much, much better.  It’s thicker, fuller, still as soft but with more of a bounce.  I tried it yesterday morning and despite my left eye suffering a bit of a prick, once I’d got my head down it was gorgeously supportive for a down /feather pillow.  I very nearly fell asleep on it at 11am and would have happily stayed that way all day (sadly a bit of typing called…).

Go for the firm option if you want a lovely, full, soft pillow with impressive bounce-back-ability, and buy a pillow protector if you haven’t already got one.
